Neo Emergence Art Exhibition
is an exhibition curated by Nthabiseng Rachel Montshiwa
a former Education Assistant/Museum volunteer of the Pretoria Art
Museum’s Education and Development Programme now a practicing curator
with Nirox Foundation. This exhibition will show case young
contemporary artists practicing in Gauteng sourced by Montshiwa
herself. Unlike its predecessor For Sale Art Exhibition
which exhibited work by art students volunteering at the Pretoria
Art Museum from 2004 – 2009 this exhibition explores the artists
production on a professional level by concentrating on their concepts,
medium and presentation.
While For Sale Art Exhibition
series focused on presenting students with the opportunity to exhibit
their work and develop as far as art practice is concerned Neo Emergence
concerns itself with the mature Fine Artist. There is a need for
another platform to show case mature new work that is being produced
by the emerging artists of our time, this is one of the purposes
of this exhibition. There is also a need to mount exhibitions which
will expose and attract good networking and financial support for
the artists. This will encourage the artists to improve their portfolios
as their careers are taking root.
The Pretoria Art
Museum is proud to be associated with this exhibition as a partner.
Through this exhibition, besides its several development programmes
that it drives yearly, the Art Museum continues to play a decisive
role in the development of the Visual Arts in South Africa. Neo
Emergence Exhibition will represent three nations which are Nigeria,
Zimbabwe and South Africa.
The exhibiting artists are
Philiswa Lila, Danelle Janse Van Rensburg, Oupa Mokoena,
Lameck Nyagudi, Molefe Twala, Senzo Shabangu and Raymond Marlowe.
All artworks on show will
be for sale.
